Sylvia Rutherford, 101, of Fairmont, passed away peaceful­ly Thursday (May 23, 2013) at St. Barbara's Memorial Nursing Home in Monongah.

She was born in Folsom, Doddridge County, on March 11, 1912, a daughter of the late Dennis and Ivy (Dye) Lemasters.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank Rutherford Sr., on Feb. 2, 1981, Sylvia was a loving homemak­er, mother, grandmother, great­grandmother and great-great­grandmother. In her earlier years she worked as a housekeeper for Judge J. Harper Meredith. She was a member of the Fairmont Moose Lodge, Fairmont Eagles and VFW Women's Auxiliary. In her younger years, she was an avid traveler.

She is survived by her son, Frank Rutherford Jr. of Fairmont; four grandchildren, Frank Rutherford and his wife Kelly, Debra Basnett and her husband Michael, Linda David, and Ray Allen Hendershot and his wife Jennie; six great-grand­children, Ray Hendershot, Paul Hendershot, Eddie Hendershot, Todd Basnett and his wife Tiffany, Patrick David and Ryan Rutherford; and several great­great- grandchildren.

Also surviving is a brother, Gilbert Lemasters.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Ellen Hendershot; one brother, Wilbert Lemasters; four sisters, Leona Brenman, Thelma Breanneman, Iva Jean Bigamon and Emma Smith; a daughter-in­law, Della May (Rosser) Rutherford; and a grandson-in­law, Michael David.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 4-8 p.m. Monday and from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral serv­ice will be held in the funeral home on at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Robert Tennant offi­ciating. Interment will follow at Janes Memorial Cemetery in Taylor County.
