Hugh Herron was the son of Francis Ross and Mary Herron Simril. He married Nancy Partlow in 1832. He was a member of The Allison Creek Grays Militia, organized in November of 1860. He was a Charter member and a deacon of the Allison Creek Presbyterian Church York Co., SC. Hugh and Nancy were the parents of Mary Frances Simril Glenn, wife of David J. Glenn Sr. Their other children were Franklin M., John J., Samuel D., Elizabeth Leonora ( m. Robert Henry Glenn), Jane, Nancy Mulvina, Cornelia, Thomas Hugh, and Martha Ann.
