HAILESBORO- Clara A. Smith, age 99, of Hailesboro, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Kinney Nursing Home in Gouverneur.

The calling hour for Clara will be on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Her funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Howard Maxson officiating. Burial will be at Hermon Cemetery. Clara was born on December 8, 1913 in Parishville to the late William and Mary A. (Lamb) Henderson Sr. She attended school in the Colton area. Clara married Kenneth Fay Smith on August 28, 1948 in Colton with Rev. Harry S. Miller officiating. Kenneth passed away on December 1, 2004.

Clara was a homemaker. She and her husband moved to Hailesboro in 1979.

She enjoyed writing poems and articles. Some were published in the Watertown Daily Times letters to the editor. She also enjoyed drawing and painting.

She formerly attended the Fine First United Methodist Church, were she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school and played the piano.

Surviving is a son and his wife, Roy K. and Mary K. Smith of Gouverneur; a daughter and her husband, Sue A. and Gary Parvese of Fine; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and his wife, Horace and Carolyn Smith of Massena and several nieces and nephews.

Clara is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; four brothers, Edward (Pete), Ralph, William and Lynn Henderson and three sisters, Mary McCrea, Rita Preston and Thelma Waite.
