Josiah Ingalls was born in Andover, MA October 31, 1747 the son of Deacon Josiah and Eunice Ingalls. Josiah came to Rindge, NH in 1760 with his parents and five brothers. The Ingalls family settled near Grassy Pond where his father became the proprietor of the first saw mill in Rindge. The lumber used to build the Rindge 1st Meeting House was sawed at this mill. Josiah married, August 31, 1771, Sarah Bowers the daughter of Nehemiah and Sarah (Larrabee) Bowers. In the Revolution Josiah was a signatory of the "Association Test" in Rindge in 1776, and enlisted in the Militia for the year. He was with the Army several months near Lake Champlain, and after was with the Army under Gen. George Washington in Pennsylvania. Josiah and Sarah had eleven children born in Rindge and Jaffrey. The Ingalls moved to the adjoining town of Jaffrey, NH in 1787. Sarah died on March 1, 1825, Josiah died July 13, 1832, aged 85 years.
