Born to Elias Boatner & Jane Black in Edgefield District, SC.

He married Elizabeth Jelks of West Feliciana, LA in 1817.

In 1824 they moved from near Norwood, LA to near Napoleonville, Assumption Parish, LA. There they built "Rosedale", an Acadian style raised cottage, on a 3,000 acre sugar plantation in about 1830. Daniel & wife Elizabeth died during the yellow fever epidemic.

Their monument, erected by their children, stands in a private cemetery on the grounds of where their home once stood. (Rosedale Plantation home stood until hurricane Betsy in the 1960's.)
