Gustav grew to manhood in the Sleepy Eye area, but later worked in Salem, Oregon until he bought land near Arriba, CO in 1916 where he made his home for some 20 years. In 1936 he returned to Sleepy Eye and made his home with his brother Albert and niece, Mrs. John Johnsen.
