SERVICES FOR EARL CALDWELL TO BE FRIDAY
Services for 81 year old Earl C. Caldwell will be held on Friday, September 29th, 2 p.m., in the Campbell Funeral home in Blair. Mr. Caldwell died on September 27th at the Blair Hospital. Rev. John Petersen will officiate with burial in the Blair Cemetery.
Mr. Caldwell was born on April 18, 1897 in Blair. He and Thelma Long were married and farmed southeast of Blair. The couple then moved to Blair where he ran a second hand store for about ten years. The couple had one son, Neal, who preceded Mr. Caldwell in death.
Mr. Caldwell was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years and a Navy veteran of World War I. Surviving sisters are: Agnes Lowe of Clemouth Falls, Ore.; Ed of Lake Charles, Louisiana; Kenneth of Denver, Colorado; and Clyde of Clemouth Falls, Oregon.
Pallbearers will be Roland Rasmusssen, Cal Jorgensen, Gilbert Ragan, John Little, George Wilson and Francis Matson.
Buried: 9/29/1978 ~ Age: 81
Earl C. Caldwell was the son of Robert M. Caldwell and Eliza M. Bross, and the grandson of John H. and Matilda Bross.
His father, Robert, was born in Virginia, October 1870. His mother, Eliza, was born in Nebraska in July 1870. They married in Washington county on June 8, 1890.
Earl was a farmer by occupation and a World War I veteran.
Earl had the following known siblings, and possibly more:
Charlie F Caldwell, Jan 1891, Nebraska
Abbie R Caldwell, Mar 1895, Nebraska
Alice C B Caldwell, Jun 1899, Nebraska
I am fairly certain that the two Caldwell children buried in Blair; Jesse W. (1892-1896) 111072742 and Freddie H. (1893-1896) # 111072279; are also Earl's siblings.
Everything fits concerning the dates and the presence of the burials of Jesse and Freddie in this family plot. Additionally, the 1900 census declares Eliza to be the mother of 6 children with 4 still living (Charlie, Earl, Abbie and Alice).
As an additional note, I believe Earl's mother died on or before 1946; a deduction I made upon studying her sister, Anna's, obituary.
