Howard Lee Jackson was born in Miller County, Missouri, near Eldon, November 28, 1896. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at Kansas City, Mo., Feb. 8, 1918 and was called into service April 11ath, going to the Great Lakes Training station. He was placed with the Battleship Missouri August 9th and was transferred to the Battleship Ohio August 29th. He met his death by drowning while swimming at sea under navy practice, Sunday, September 1, 1918, age 21 years, 9 months and 3 days.

He was converted and united with the Primitive Baptist Church in Kansas City last March.

He leaves a father, mother, four brothers, five sisters and a half-brother to mourn his death. He was a noble true and loving son and brother. His life was a benediction both to his family and host of friends who shall cherish his blessed memory. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, they rest from their labors and their works follow them."

A funeral oration was delivered by Rev. Floyd G. Rogers at the Eldon Baptist Church Sept. 10. The business houses of the city were closed during the service and Decker's Band played the National airs. A large crowd attended.
