Luther married Miss Ruth Brundage on June 8, 1824 at Hopewell, Ontario County, New York.
Luther Dean settled just East of Newburgh, next to Nankin in what is now Livonia, Wayne County, Michigan in 1831 or 1832. He bought land to be cleared for his farm, was a founder of the Newburgh Cemetery Society, a Livonia Township officer and local school patron. He bought an unfinished gristmill and worked to complete it. The mill became known as Nankin Mill. Luther served as a Deputy Sheriff and was "instrumental in arresting and breaking up a gang of horse thieves and counterfeits who infested eastern Michigan and Ohio."
Luther died on Christmas Day 1850, he was 47 years old. Luther and his wife Ruth had 7 children: Thomas, William, George, Marian, Harriet, James & Polly.
