Services for Lorene Baker, 74, of Portales will be held on Wednesday at 10 o'clock in the morning at Brazos Street Church of Christ in Portales. David Minson will officiate.
Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery. Wheeler Mortuary is handling arrangements.
mrs. Baker died on Sunday Jan. 21, 1990, in Clovis. She was born on Nov. 14, 1915, near Fort Worth, Texas. She lived near Farmers Branch, Texas, then moved to Henrietta, Texas. She met her husband while working in Nocona, Texas. They owned and operated a general store in Nocona for many years.
In the late 1930s they moved to Bowie, Texas, and later bought and operated a grocery store in Bellview for a few years before moving to Portales in 1953. She married Coy M. Baker on Dec. 23, 1934, in Nocona.
Survivors include one son, Wayne Baker, Portales; one daughter, Maurine Hughes, Clovis; three brothers, Olan Chappel, Henrietta, Texas, C.H. (Chester) Chappel, Lewisville, Texas, and Valton Chappel, San Angelo, Texas; three sisters, Lillian Hays, Deming, Oma Stella Leverett, Duncan, Okla., and Vada Davis, Henrietta, Texas; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Baker, on Nov. 3, 1984; a brother, Reed Chappel; and a sister, Clara Rector.
