George Cecil Garland, 93, of Carlisle, died Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Forest Park Health Center, Carlisle. He was born Apr. 9, 1920, in Needmore, a son of the late Blair and Lessie Bard Garland.

George served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. After his time in the military, he worked at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, as a Quality Assurance Specialist until the time he retired. He enjoyed traveling to Florida where he spent most of his retirement with his wife. George was an avid hunter who enjoyed the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mona Fern Garland of Carlisle; one daughter, Judy Gwen Kochert of Carlisle; one grandson, Erik Kochert (and his wife, Allie), of York; and three great-grandchildren, Leah, Gabriel and Caleb. George was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan E. Kochert; two brothers, Forrest and Eugene Garland; and one sister, Doris Funk.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, May 17, at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Daniel Menniti officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery. A visitation will be Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
