Mary Theda Henschke, of New Oxford, passed away peacefully May 16, 2013, in Gettysburg. She was the wife of Charles H. "Bud" Henschke, who died March 15, 2007.

Born August 14, 1925, in Bonneauville, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Regina (Orndorff) Smith.

Theda was a member of Sacred Heart Basilica, Hanover. She loved to cook and especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are seven children: Stephen Henschke and his wife Gladys of Gettysburg, Janet Seymore and her husband Sylvester of Laurel, Md., Nancy Rider and her husband David of Biglerville, Bernard Henschke and his wife Kathy of Hanover, Michael Henschke of York, Mary Newman and her husband Robert of Hanover and Teresa Wagner and her husband Leon of Spring Grove; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Ruth Black of New Oxford and Jean Poland of Gettysburg. She was preceded in death by a son Robert and an infant son Philip, and seven siblings: Norman, Alfred, Ernest, Harold and Madeline Smith and Mercedes Staub and Shirley Henschke.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Basilica, Hanover, with Rev. Lawrence J. McNeil officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives will be received Sunday, 3-5 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with prayers at 5 p.m.
