Jesse was the 7th and youngest child born to William Henry & Rachel Elizabeth (Cates) Burks. He married Exa Huie on 22 Dec 1904 in Clayton Co GA. They were the parents of Clarence Edward Burks, Edna Armenia Burks Adams, and Miriam Elizabeth Burks Hudson.

Funeral services for J M Burks, 74, will be held at 3 pm Thursday at the Hapeville First Baptist Church, where he was a member and formerly a deacon. The Rev Howard Morris will officiate. Burial will be in the College Park Cemetery.

Mr Burks, who lived at 3319 Whitney Ave, Hapeville, died Tuesday at a Savannah hospital.

Mr Burks was a retired switchman with the Central of Georgia Railroad. He was with the railroad for 35 years until he retired 12 years ago.

Mr Burks, known as "Uncle Jess," raised flowers as a hobby and gave them to the PTA and other civic groups. He wass a native of Clayton County.

Surviving are his wife; daughters, Mrs H B Adams of Jacksonville, Fla, and Mrs P J Hudson of Hapeville; son, C E Burks of Wynnwood, Pa, and a brother, George A Burks of Covina, California.
