In Memory

Lewis Francis, son of Abraham and Rachel Fittro, was born July 27, 1839 in Harrison Co., W. Va. He was the eldest in a family of seven children, three of whom survive. When he was fourteen years of age his family came to Ohio and settled in Highland County in which the deceased spent the remainder of his life. At the outbreak of the Civil War he readily offered his services to his country. After his term of service expired, he re-enlisted and served until the close of the war. He was a loyal member of the G.A.R. at Hillsboro.

On Sept. 12, 1887, he was united in marriage to Louisa J. Holmes. To this union were born three children, Francis G., Mary J. and Lenora.

This happy home was broken up on June 16, 1912, by the loss of the loving wife and mother. After which the deceased made his home with the youngest child, Mrs. Harry Johnson, who has done everything in her power to make his last years one of comfort, and to make up the loss of the loved one gone before. He often expressed his satisfaction and appreciation of his home.

Especially did he desire to be close to his youngest grandchild, Harold, whom he loved dearly and that love was returned with all the love of a childish heart. In Harold he seemed to find a consolation for the sorrow of his bereavement. His hours of loneliness and heartache seemed lessened by the enjoyment they found in each other. His entire life was active, clean, cheerful and helpful. He possessed the virtues of honesty, truthfulness, charity and industry.

He had been strong and healthy until about two years ago when ill health came to him. Since that time he had failed fast. The last four months his suffering has been great, but death came to release him from that pain and suffering at 8 o'clock, Sept. 13, 1925, at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 17 days.

We have the assurance that he was prepared to meet his Maker as he has told us so many times how he longed to go and be at rest. We mourn but not with those who have no hope and we feel sure that there has been a happy meeting in Heaven.

He has gone but he has left behind an aching sorrow and an emptiness that can never be filled. The loss is great to all but possibly realized in a greater sense by those who were so close to him during these last years of his life. He leaves to mourn his loss three children: Francis G. Fittro of Hillsboro, Mrs. Mary J. Mitchell of Cincinnati and Mrs. Lenora Johnson of Greenfield, three great-grandchildren also one sister, Mrs. George Holmes and two brothers, Joseph of Mt. Victory and Vincent of Hillsboro besides a host of relatives and friends.

He is gone and we shall miss him
Death has brought us pain and sorrow
But with that pain a feeling,
'Twas for him a bright tomorrow.

For he had often told us
How he longed to go to rest
And to join his Divine Savior
And the mother, with the blest.

It will be a happy meeting
On that bright and golden shore
Where there are no tears or parting
Just to rest for evermore.

Card of Thanks

We desire to thank all who tried to lessen our bereavement in any way. For the beautiful flowers, the consoling words and the many acts of kindness shown to us during the sickness and death of our Loved One.
