Here is the item I told you and Jay Wright about. You may want to cut and paste it to add to her bio. Hard to believe this was in 1865. Rachel lived another 25 years, so I guess it didn't harm her. I guess the names at the end were the contributors to the story. Harrison Taylor was her son-in-law. Jacob Fittro was her double brother-in-law, married to her sister and brother of her husband. The others were locals.
Thanks,
Steve

REMOVAL OF A TUMOR
Mrs. Rachel Fetro, aged 51 years, had a Tumor removed from her person on the 8th inst. It was located on her right side, just above the hip, two inches above the spine, extending seven inches forward, measuring twenty-one inches in circumference. Mrs. Fetro has had very poor health for the last two years, and the Tumor growing so rapidly, it was deemed advisable to remove it, she being anxious to have it done, and if possible to prolong her life for a time.
The operation was performed by Dr. J. M. Miller, of this place. It was removed very rapidly, the arteries scarcely cut until they were taken up and tied. We don't think that she lost 1/2 pint of blood in the operation, and we do think, taking everything into consideration, the age and the infirmity of the patient and the size and location of the Tumor, that it was the most skillful and hazardous operation performed by any physician in the county.
Mrs. Fetro seems to be getting along finely, the wound is healing nicely, and everything indicates a speedy recovery to as good health as it is possible for her to enjoy with her old complaints.
The Doctor certainly knows a specific for Diphtheria, for he has had a good deal of that disease to contend with since he came here (which has been about 18 months) and in its most malignant form- some patients that other physicians gave up, but he has not lost a case. He is a young practitioner, but an assiduous one, and bids very fair for the future.
