William Owens, 78, of 107 George Ave. died Sunday night in General Hospital after being stricken ill at home.
Born Jan. 24, 1897, in British Columbia, he was employed as a miner at the Dorrance Colliery over 34 years, retiring some years ago.
Surviving are his widow, the former Mary Ellen Hannon; children, Mrs. Anthony Mattick, Wilkes-Barre; William, at home; Charles, Bryn Mawr; Mrs. David Logan, Plains; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, James, Miami, Fla.
Funeral will be from Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave.,Wednesday at 10 with Rev. Stephen Williamson, rector of St. Clement - St. Peter Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre, officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
