Obituary from Helena's Independent Record (Montana) 05/27/2005:

Bernice Yeshe passed away on May 21, 2005, in Helena. Bernice was born Bosilka Galovich on Jan. 7, 1929, in Hibbing, Minn.

She was the seventh of nine children born to Vasil and Angela Galovich. Bernice grew up in a household in which Serbo-Croatian was the only language spoken. She was given the name Bernice upon entering grade school and learned English in school.

As the child of immigrants, and as a child of the Great Depression, Bernice came to value hard work as one of the chief virtues of life. Bernice put all of herself into everything she did. The things that gave her the greatest pleasure during her life were words and how they conveyed meaning and emotion; the preparation of good food; and the many ways that life presented beauty.

Bernice possessed a vibrant intellectual curiosity to the very end of her life. Bernice cared most of all about her children. She and they were able to grow together throughout her life, and she and they were able to be together during the process of her passing.

Bernice is survived by her daughter, Mary Yeshe, and her son, Mark Yeshe, both of Helena; her brother, George Galovich of Tulsa, Okla.; and her sister, Mary Satterstrom, of Minneapolis.

Bernice's children want to thank the entire staff at the Waterford, and the staff of the Hospice of St. Peter's, for the extraordinary care that was given to Bernice.

The Waterford was the only home Bernice knew in Helena. The staff of the Waterford gave her much more than care; they provided genuine love and compassion that went far beyond mere duty.

That was especially true of the personal care assistants. The personnel of Hospice also gave Bernice a level of attention that was greatly appreciated by both Bernice and her children.

Bernice requested that no public service be held. Those wishing to commemorate Bernice's passing are invited to make a contribution to the Hospice of St. Peter's.
