Jack graduated from Sac City High School, in Sac City, Iowa in 1952. After serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, he returned and farmed the family farm in Clinton Township for 27 years. On December 27, 1957, he was married to Joyce Colleen Jarnagin at the First Christian Church in Sac City. They were parents of three sons: Steven, Scott and Charles, and a daughter, Susan, who died as an infant. Jack was also a postal employee for 19 years, and was the rural mail carrier out of Lake View at the time of his death in a tractor mowing accident in 1985.
