William was the second of eleven children born to Anne (Bell) and Enoch Cadwalader Edwards of Bustleton, Philadelphia County. He married Sarah Ann Conrad on Feb 4, 1835 in Philadelphia. He held various jobs and died of yellow fever while on a business trip to New Orleans in 1855. He and Sarah were the parents of six children. An infant daughter, Sarah, preceded him in death in 1836.
