Sarah Ann was the daughter of Christianna (Bastian) and Mathew Conrad of the Philadelphia, PA area. She married William Carhart Edwards, also of Philadelphia, on Feb 4, 1835. Her husband died of yellow fever while on a business trip to New Orleans in 1855, leaving Sarah widowed with their 5 children: William Conrad, Mary Christianna, Enoch Cadwalader, John Bastian, and Evan Edwards. A daughter, Sarah Ann Edwards, died in infancy.
She took the children to Boonville, Missouri for awhile, then returned to Lower Merion, Philadelphia, to live with the family of her daughter Mary Christianna and husband John Mount Stewart. She later moved to Mauston, Wisconsin where she lived with her son, Dr. John B. Edwards and family until her death. In addition to her husband and infant daughter, she was preceded in death by son Enoch Edwards.
