William Baird was born October, 1765 in Londonderry County, Ireland and moved to Pennsylvania. He married Nancy Harbison, born in Bogg Township in 1787 to John Harbison and Isabella Milliken Harbison, on August 20, 1805. They lived in Pleasant Gap, PA and had eleven children. They both died in Pleasant Gap, PA. William 02/14/1863 and Nancy 9/23/1855. Both buried Union Cemetery.
The eleven children were:
--William (12/11/1806-12/10/1872) married 1)Jane Thompson 12/23/1831. Buried Union Cemetery, Bellefonte, PA. married 2) Lydia Ann Isenburg. Buried Shelby Co., IL.
--John (3/18/1809-4/23/1888) married Hannah Foresman 1/29/1846 in Pleasant Gap. Died in Shelby Co., IL, and buried in Prairie Home Cemetery.
--James (3/10/1811-4/21/1894) married Ellen Simmons. Died and buried in Mobile, AL.
--Eliza (12/24/1812-8/28/1887) married Gardner Millikin Thompson 11/26/1832 in Pleasant Gap. Died in Shelby Co., IL, and buried in Prairie Home Cemetery.
--Samuel (5/8/1815-7/19/1889) married Isabella Travis 12/25/1845. Buried in Limestone Cemetery, Clarion Co., PA.
--Isabella - died in infancy.
--Robinson (4/11/1819-4/23/1901) married Ruth Furey 1/8/1850. Died in Shelby Co., IL, and buried in Prairie Home Cemetery.
--David - died in infancy.
--Henry (8/8/1824-10/15/1863) married Lucetta McKibben. A member of the Confederate States Navy, Henry died in Charleston Bay in the second sinking of the Hunley. His monument is at the South Battery in Charleston. Note that on some Hunley websites he is referred to as Henry Beard.
--Josiah (8/3/1826-9/6/1862). Married Mary Merrill 12/29/1852. Captain, Company D, Second Cavalry, Missouri Militia -aka Merrill's Horse. (Union Army) Died in Civil War in Glascow, Mo.
--Robert (5/12/1830-8/26/1862). Died in Libby Prison, Belle Isle, James River, VA. To have been held at Libby, Robert should have been a Union Officer, however his muster record indicates that he was a sargeant.
