She has been a longtime member of the Lutheran Church of Our Blessed Savior in Alexandria. At the church she taught Sunday School for 22 years and also served as the first Deaconess of the church. She was a member of the Alexandria East Side Home Extension Club. She will be remembered for her great fondness of all animals with a special place in her heart and life for "her birds." The care and loving nurture she gave to her family returned to Bessie much joy and contentment.
