Hamon William Baldwin was the third child of William Baldwin (1816-1861) and Mary Stinchcombe Baldwin (1824-?). Haman's occupation in Wales was an iron miner. Haman and Frances Elizabeth Burge married in Abersychan, Monmouthsire, Wales on March 5, 1870.

The Haman Baldwin family, including five children, emigrated to the U.S. in 1881 and settled in western Pennsylvania where the sixth child (Helen) was born shortly after their arrival.

In 1883, the family moved to New Rock, near Bourbon, Crawford Co., Missouri, where Frances' father Thomas Burge had settled recently. Haman's occupation was a farmer from 1883 until his death in 1920.
