Elmira was born on Friday April 23, 1875 in Pike County Illinois. She was the fourth child born to Benjamin Mather and the first child to be born deaf.

On Tuesday October 29, 1901 Elmira married Felix Phelius Lupien in Jacksonville, Illinois. The marriage took place at the Benjamin Mather Family home.

Felix Phelius Lupien was born on Thursday April 1, 1869 in Watseka, Iroquois County, Illinois. Felix was not deaf, but hard of hearing.

On the Morgan County marriage license Felix has listed his father as Antonio Lupien. From other research Felix mother was Louise Mayette. Both of Felix parents were born in Canada – French or Quebec Canada.

Elmira gave birth to two children: Ava Marie born 1907; Joyce Delnia born 1910

Felix Lupien died on Tuesday September 18, 1956 at the home of his daughter Joyce Delina Goveia in San Leandro, Alameda County, California and his body was shipped back to Jacksonville for burial in the Diamond Grove Cemetery.

Elmira died on Monday February 15, 1971 at the home of her daughter Joyce Delina in Pleasanton, Alameda County, California. Elmira's body was returned to Jacksonville for burial in the Diamond Grove Cemetery with her Husband Felix.
