EDWARD GRAHAM WOOLFOLK

Word was received in Spearfish yesterday morning that Ed Woolfolk passed away at his ranch northwest from Spearfish about eighty miles. At the time of going to press the Mail has been unable to gather any particulars. The body was brought to Spearfish yesterday.

Taken from the "Queen City Mail," dated Wednesday, November 23, 1921.
------
Last week the Mail made brief mention of the passing of E. G. Woolfolk, but was not in possession of any data pertaining to his life history until after the paper had been printed. Edward Graham Woolfolk was born at Weatherford, Texas, February 27, 1873. His younger days were spent in the "Lone Star" state, and in 1892 he came with a drove of Texas cattle over the old trail to the Black Hills. It was not his intention to remain here more than a brief time after delivering the cattle, but when about ready for the return trip he met H. G. Weare and accepted an offer to go on the range with the Weare cattle. He was in Mr. Weare's employ about fourteen years, when he became his own "boss" and engaged in the stock business on his own account. He has been uniformly successful and has accumulated a competence in live stock and land. In 1899 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. Cassel at Bozeman, Montana. Five children-Evelyn, Mary, Joseph, Alta and Vernon-are the result of this happy union. Their home life has been ideal in every sense of the word, and the widow and children are heartbroken over the demise of a kind and indulgent husband and father.

For more than a year past Mr. Woolfolk had been aware of the fact that he was afflicted with an acute case of diabetes. His attending physician bluntly informed him that unless he conformed to certain rules of life and avoided extreme cold weather and sudden chills, he would eventually drop into a sleep which knows no waking. He had a slight attack as the result of a trip from the ranch to his Spearfish home shortly before his passing, but even that warning was not sufficient to deter him from returning to the ranch at a time when he should have remained in safety and comfort. He was stricken shortly after arriving at the ranch and his condition was so serious that Mrs. Woolfolk and Dr. Hare were summoned. Mr. Woolfolk was in a condition of unconsciousness from Friday night until he breathed his last at 1 o'clock a.m. November 22. All immediate members of the family were at home for the funeral, as well as Joseph Cassel and W. W. Cassel, father and brother of Mrs. Woolfolk, who were summoned from their home at Ansley, Nebraska. Mrs. Woolfolk is deeply grateful to the friends and neighbors, both here and at the home ranch, who came to her assistance in time of need, many of whom sent beautiful flowers and wreaths for the funeral, which was conducted here and interment made November 23. While it is manifestly impossible to make individual mention Mrs. Woolfolk requests the Mail to express her sincere thanks to those who assisted in any way at a time when friendship is most needed.

Taken from the "Queen City Mail," dated Wednesday, November 30, 1921.
-------
Monday afternoon C. W. Ott, cashier of the American National Bank, received a draft for $5,000 in full payment to the beneficiaries of the last E. G. Woolfolk. The draft in question was from the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States, and is the first draft of that nature Mr. Ott has had occasion to receive in payment for death loss since he took the agency in February, 1919. The draft was received slightly less than three weeks from the death of Mr. Woolfolk. The insurance company in question prides itself on settling claims within twenty-four hours after receiving the necessary data at its New York office.

Taken from the "Queen City Mail," dated December 14, 1921.

From the "Intermountain Globe" Hulett, Crook, Wyoming, November 24, 1921, page 1

We were informed Tuesday morning Ed Woolfolk had passed away at this home Monday night. Mr. Woolfolk has been a resident of Crook county for many years and owned a very good ranch in the northern part of the county, where he has been involved in the stock raising business.
