Elizabeth Kountz was my paternal ggg grandmother. She was married to Rev. Francis Asbury Wilson on April 7, 1812 in Mason County, West Virginia. They were the parents of 10 sons, five of whom lived to manhood.
She was a true pioneer woman, overseeing the large farm, mill, store and timber operation, as well as her home, while her husband was away preaching on the large circuit for which he was responsible. Her sons were taught to work at a very early age, as were most pioneer children.
A citizen of The Republic of Texas, she had none of the conveniences we so take for granted today. The men and women of that day had a determination to tame this rugged land of floods, fires, mosquitoes, deerflies and other pestilances.
