John Sanderson Donaldson was the 8th child of 13. His family had strong, generational ties to Kittanning, PA, but several family members moved to Wooster, Ohio in the early 1920's. He moved there in 1921 a year after his marriage to Myrtle Grace Guthridge, also of Kittanning. The family remained there until his death in 1968. He worked for the East Ohio Gas Company as both in the field and office until about 1958, when he was appointed to the Ohio Public Utility Commission by the Governor.

He was a member of Central Christian Church of Wooster, the Lions Club, Elks Lodge, IOOF and other organizations. He and his wife were very active and contributed to Wooster in many ways.

He retired in 1967 and died one year later.
