El, short for Elmer, bought and sold produce, bought and sold livestock, owned and operated grain and vegetable farms, owned and operated poultry farms, operated a trucking business to transport what he bought and sold, sold fertilizer and lime as an agent for Millard lime in Anneville, Pennsylvania and Worcester Fertilizer Company in Snow Hill, Maryland and ran a country store that was located 2 miles west of Millsboro on the north side of route 24. He did this together with his wife, Estella, who worked with him and was also a very able business person.
