Harlin C. Crain

Harlin C. Crain, 82, of Pittsburg, passed away at 1:50 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013 at his home.
He was born December 26, 1930 at Columbus, Kansas, the son of John and Frances (Sales) Crain. He attended school in Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School in 1948.
On September 10, 1949, he was united in marriage to Lois M. Robison at Columbus. She survives at the family home. At the age of 17, Mr. Crain received his Bricklayer's Union Card, which he carried for 64 years. As an exceptional craftsman, Harlin worked for Oehme Bros. Masonry Company for many years working on University, residential, hospitals, schools and churches in the four state area. He also worked for the Pittsburg Midway Coal Company and Mackie Clemons Coal Company. Membership was held in the Bricklayers Local #4 & #15 for sixty four years and in the United Mine Workers.
In addition to his wife, Lois, he is survived by two sons, Dennis Crain and his wife, Jane of Pittsburg and Scott Crain of Pittsburg; a daughter, Jill Overman and her husband, Monty of Columbus, KS; and four grandchildren, Justin Crain and his wife, Emily, Monica (Overman) Avent and her husband, Keith, Morgan Overman, and Cody Crain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and 8 sisters.
A Memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the Brenner Mortuary with Rev. Dan Moss officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Brenner Mortuary. Private family burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Harry Hynes Hospice &/or Ronald McDonald House of Joplin. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
