OPELOUSAS - Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 7, 2013 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire for Ewell Prejean, age 86, who passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 3:10 p.m. at his residence in Opelousas.

Interment will be in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire.

Musical selections will be provided by Julie Broussard, accompanied by Phyllis Simar on the organ. The songs will be The Wind Beneath My Wings, The Old Rugged Cross, On Eagle's Wings, Isaiah 49, and One Bread, One Body.

Mr. Prejean was a native of Church Point and had been a resident of Opelousas for most of his life. He was employed with St. Landry Parish School Board for 32 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during World War II. He was a parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Theresa Thibodeaux Prejean of Opelousas; one daughter, Sandra Guidry and husband, Jerry, of Opelousas; one son-in-law, Ron Cormier of Cankton; one daughter-in-law, Linda Prejean of Lewisburg; eight grandchildren, Kyle Guidry, Nick Guidry, Lane Prejean and wife, Michelle, Matt Prejean and wife, Sabrina, Chantille Lejeune and husband, Gary, Brent Cormier and wife, Lacee, Ronnie Cormier and wife, Jamie, Tonya Leon and husband, Keith; twelve great grandchildren; and one sister, Mercedes Chataignier and husband, Floyd, of New Iberia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Armogean Prejean and the former Andrea Comeaux; one son, Ray Prejean; one daughter, Lois Cormier; three brothers and two sisters.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Guidry, Nick Guidry, Lane Prejean, Matt Prejean, Brent Cormier and Ronnie Cormier. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Leon, Gary Lejeune, Jerry Guidry and Ron Cormier.
