Aline Bryan Barnes passed away Dec. 5, 2006. She celebrated her 100th birthday in April with family and friends at Pat and Larry's Steak House in Willows, Ca.
Born April 4, 1906, Aline Bryan was the thirteenth of Preston and Julia Bryan's fourteen children. She spent her childhood in Texas and New Mexico. The family moved to California where she graduated High School in Vallejo. She went north and attended Chico Normal School (California State University Chico) and graduated with her teaching credential in 1927.
She then moved to Glenn County to teach 1st and 2nd grades at Codora Elementary School. It was there she met and married Marvin James Barnes in 1929. She spent most of her adult life ranching with her family, substitute teaching and home schooling in Codora.
During World War II, she took a class in Redding on aircraft identification and then taught the class to the volunteers at the Codora aircraft spotting station. She was active in the Codora Women's Club, the Codora Sunday School, and was a very active member in the Glenn Baptist Church.
Aline and Jim were married 67 years. He passed away on Dec. 7, 1996. She was preceded in death by all thirteen of her siblings. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Adele (Barnes) & Bobe Stout of Artois, Carrol and Eva Barnes of Clovis and Ralph Barnes of Mountain View, two grandchildren and their spouses Scott & Kathy Barnes and Cindy (Stout) & Dennis Quigley and three great grandchildren Corey Barnes, Erin Quigley and Todd Quigley. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of F.D. Sweet and Son Mortuary, 114 North Shasta Willows, CA 95988 (530) 934-5524. In lieu of flowers you may donate in Aline's name to the charity of your choice.
