William "Bill" Bender Sr., 61, of Colona died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at his home.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Colona. Entombment is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer disease research or Pick's disease at the University of Iowa Hospitals.
He was born Oct. 5, 1940, in Rock Island, the son of Andrew and Luella Schaecher Bender. He married Thelma L. Anderson Sept. 11, 1971, in East Moline.
He worked in the motor-freight business for more than 40 years, currently owning Bender Trucking of Colona.
He was a member of the Geneseo Moose Club. He enjoyed golfing, the Quad City Mallards, and being with his children and grandchildren
Survivors include his wife, Thelma; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Dale Allensworth, Moline, and Donna and David Hahn, Des Moines; sons and daughters-in-law, William "Bill" and Mary Ann Bender Jr., East Moline, John Bender, Colona, and Thomas and Brenda Bender, Moline; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Charlene Wirt, East Moline, and Mary Ann Parr, Moline; and a brother, Jerry Bender, Silvis.
