He spent the majority of his life farming before his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Family members said he enjoyed coyote trapping, fishing, and deer hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ola Gertrude (Murphy) and James William Smith; and four brothers: Doyle, O'Bannon, Shirley and Noal, who died as an infant.
Terrell is survived by his wife, Mamie "Louise" (Allen); two sons, Alvin Smith (and wife, Mary Frances) of Portales and Wayne Smith (Juanita) of Capitan; a brother, Ted Smith of Hobbs; six grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Ron Moore, Eddie, Bill, and Roy Smith, Phillip Wall and Jeremy Neal.
Honorary pallbearers are friends and neighbors.
