Mamie "Louise" (Allen) Smith, 93, passed away in Portales, New Mexico, on April 9, 2013. She was born August 20, 1919, in Silverton, Texas, the daughter of Anna Mamie (Miller) and Alex Lucian Allen. Both of her parents died before she was eight years old. She and her brother were raised in the Elida, New Mexico, community by their grandparents, Sarah Elizabeth "Sadie" (Jones) and Francis Edward "Frank" Miller.

While working in a cafe in Elida, she became acquainted with Terrell Alvin Smith, who would come in on weekends, and always made sure to sit at one of her tables. They were married November 10, 1938, in Portales, NM.

They continued to make their home in Elida, NM, until 1946, when they moved to Portales, NM. For several years she worked for her father-in-law at Wimpy's. Later she worked at Mattie's Cafe.

Louise was an excellent seamstress, and made all of her son's shirts while they lived at home. She also crocheted many afghans, and had blessed her children and grandchildren with her beautiful handwork.

As long as her health would permit, she was a faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

She was an excellent cook. Her family could always count on having "After Church Chocolate Cake" to be sitting in the kitchen.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Mamie (Miller) and Alex Lucian Allen; and grandparents, Sarah Elizabeth "Sadie" (Jones) and Francis Edward "Frank" Miller; her only sibling, her brother, Edward Alex Allen in 1956; and by her husband of more than 66 years of marriage, Terrell Alvin Smith, on May 3, 2005.

She is survived by two sons, Alvin Smith (wife, Mary Frances) of Portales; and Wayne Smith (wife, Juanita) of Capitan, NM; six grandchildren: Betty Moore (Ron), Debbie Smith, Bill Smith (Stacey), Roy Smith (Chelsea), Janiece Wall (Phillip), and Renee Smith; 25 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Bill Smith, Roy Smith, Jeremy Neal, Jim Neal, Justin Neal, and Treyvan Terry.
All other family members and friends will be honorary pallbearers.
