TODD, CHRISTINE HERTLEIN BARNES, 83, of Louisville, died Saturday March 19, 2005, at Baptist Hospital East, surrounded by her family. She was a retired teacher for the Madison, Jefferson and Fayette counties' school systems in Kentucky. She found a special joy in working with those students for whom life and school were most challenging. She was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and a former member of Meadowview Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Church in Winchester, KY, and the Westminster Terrace Bible Study Class. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Isa Hertlein; husbands, David C. Barnes and William R. Todd; and two sisters, Georgeann Hertlein and Lucy Congleton. She is survived by her son, David C. Barnes, Jr. (Janet) of Kensington, MD; daughters, Margaret Ann Barnes Pennington (Gary) of Louisville and Sarah Todd Whitaker-Force (Dan) of Annapolis, MD; a sister, June Kirk of Madison, IN; grandchildren, Bess Colvin Barnes of Kensington, Jaime Roberts (Koby) of Dallas, TX, and Matthew Whitaker of Portland, OR; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Lauren Roberts; and a host of friends, whom she loved and with whom she shared the gifts and survived the losses of life. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2005, at Springfield (KY) Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2005, in the chapel of Westminster Terrace, 2116 Buechel Bank Road. Pearson's entrusted with arrangements. Memorial gifts may be made to the Presbyterian Community Center, 731 S. Hancock St., Louisville, KY 40202 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
