Mrs. Schladoer, nee Emma Doehne, was born on December 12, 1865, at Smithson's Valley where she grew up and attended school. On December 25, 1889, she was married to Charles Schladoer, then the young couple moved to Comfort and located on the farm which has been their home ever since. Four children were born to this couple. One child died in infancy and a son, Robert, passed away in 1919. Besides the husband the deceased leaves a daughter, Mrs. Erna Meckel and a son, Henry Schladoer both of Comfort, and five grandchildren. She leaves also three sisters, Mrs. Herman Stieler and Mrs. Alfred Thiele of New Braunfels, and Mrs. Richard Schladoer of Bandera; and three brothers, Julius and John Doehne of San Antonio and Ernst Doehne of New Braunfels. One sister, Miss Anna Doehne of San Antonio died two years ago, a brother, Fritz Doehne of New Braunfels died in 1927, and a step-brother, Henry Wetz of San Antonio, died 14 years ago. Her mother, Katherine Gass Doehne died in 1894, and her father, John Doehne, in 1925.
