Mrs. Bergin passed away at the age of 90. She was the daughter of Blanche (nee Bertrand) and Walter Dowsey. She had five siblings. She grew up in the Upper Peninsula. Her father was a cement contractor, and her mother was a homemaker. She attended the Ferris Institute, and also served in the Women's Army Corps, and attained the rank of Technical Sergeant. Following her military service, she graduated from the University of Michigan, with a degree in Speech Therapy. She married her loving husband Bernard on February 21, 1952. Sadly, he preceded her in death, in 1973. Her six youngest children were still at home at the time. She taught in the Plymouth, Northville, and South Lyon schools, and retired in 1986. After her retirement she volunteered for 12 years as a monitor with Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic, and devoted numerous years to the Meals on Wheels program. She spent 27 years helping on a weekly basis with the Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor. She also was on various commissions at her church, St. Joseph's in South Lyon, taught catechism, and was their first female lector, and continued that for years.
She dearly loved her family, and was survived by her eight children; two daughters and six sons. She was a devoted grandmother to her 21 grandchildren. She was a woman with a strong faith, and she was a positive person.
