Caroline married George Charman in England in 1844. They both joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and came to America to settle in Nauvoo. They were soon driven out and moved to St. Louis. Goerge Charman and their baby daughter, Caroline, died in St. Louis and are buried in the St. Louis Cemetery.
A good friend, Thomas Cottam, a widower, helped her during this difficult time and he married Caroline 9 Oct 1847. They left for Utah 8 May 1852 and arrived in Salt Lake City 13 Sept 1852. In 1862 they were called to settle in Utah's Dixie where they lived in St. George.
