Bernard J. Akin, 49, of Brighton Twp., passed away Friday evening, April 19, 2013 in Erie following an extended illness.

Born August 31, 1963, in Rochester, he was a son of the late Marion and Blanche Bixler Akin and was a 1981 graduate of Beaver Area High School. Bernie had a passion for cars and as a mechanic, he loved to share his skill by working on his friends and family's cars. He had formerly worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a former member of the Hope Lutheran Church, Brighton Twp.

He is survived by four sisters, Marian Udon, Industry; Janice (Randy) Wolf, Leetonia, OH; his twin sister, Bernice (Mike) Ruffner, Industry; Tina (Tom) Ussleman, Brighton Twp., and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Friends will be received Monday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the NOLL FUNERAL HOME INC, 333 Third Street, Beaver, where a service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. Private interment will take place at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
