Alma Gratton, daughter of Newton and Jane Cockings was born in the town of Fayette, Oct. 4th, 1886 and passed away after a lingering illness, at Rest Haven, in Mineral Point, on Friday, Feb. 20, 1942 at the age of 55 years, 4 months and 15 days.

She was united in marriage to Charles Gratton on Feb. 213, 1910, and with her husband resided on their farm near Waldwick, until the time of her death.

She professed faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord, and on Dec 19th, 1937 both she and her husband united with the Methodist Church in Waldwick, where they have since attended services as her health permitted.

For the past 13 years Mrs. Gratton had been in very poor health, but in spite of poor health with the help of her husband she had carried on the work in the home until about six weeks ago when her frail strength was no longer sufficient for the task. For a time she was cared for in the home of her sister Mrs. M. Gant, in Mineral Point. Later she was taken to a hospital in Dodgeville, and from there to Rest Haven, where after a courageous fight for life she finally succumbed and passed quietly into her eternal rest.

Those left to mourn her loss beside her loving husband are Mrs. Hattie Skinner of Waldwick. Mrs. Margery Gant of Mineral Point and two brothers, Frank and Carl Cockings, both of Waldwick, also many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held from the home of her sister, Mrs. Margery Gant, at 1 o'clock on Sunday, Feb. 22nd, and from the Waldwick Methodist church at 2 P.M. Rev. D.A. Long having charge of the services. Burial took place in the Waldwick cemetery. Pallbearers were J.C. Harker, Milo Ferrell, Ralph Reynolds, Howard Cassidy, Clarence Ferrell, and Ervin Ross. Flower girls were six neices, Mrs. Van Cavanaugh, Mrs. Blanche Fitzsimmons, Mrs William Walker, Mrs. W. G. Seuerfiel, Miss Helen Gratton and miss Alice Cockings. Duets were sung by Mrs. Vernon Cox and Mrs Caroll Gordon, accompanied by Mrs. Byron Paynter at the piano.
