Son of Charles Shirah and Laurana Medlin Shirah. He was a Lieutenant in Company F, 27th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. Husband of Sylvania Ann Meeks Shirah; father of Louvenia, William, Susan and James Henry Shirah. Three Brothers- Christopher, Charles, and John Shirah, soldiers in the 27th Georgia Infantry, also died in service to the C.S.A.
