She married William Wesley Coffey on Aug. 1, 1854, in Grainger County, Tennessee. They were the parents of Mylinda (Malinda) Narcissa "Sis," Berry Wisdom Lafette, and John Cleveland Coffey.
After her first husband's death in the Civil War, she married his neighbor and comrade in arms, Noble Collins on Aug. 2, 1868, in Grainger County, Tennessee. They were the parents of Calvin, Mary J., Martha E., George Washington, Cordelia and Rosie Collins.
"Gelina Shouse married William Wesley Coffey, he and Noble Collins were in the Civil War, Co. D, 26th Tennessee Inf. Regiment, C.S.A. both were wounded at Missionary Ridge, William Wesley Coffey died of his wounds on July 11, 1864 at Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia and is buried in the C.S.A. Cemetery in Covington, Newton County, Georgia. Noble Collins was in the hospital from July 1, 1864 until released 5 May 1865. They married in 1868. Gelina's grandson Horace Marcus "Marc" Coffey placed the tombstone on her grave so even though her first husband was killed 52 years before, she was buried as a Coffey not a Collins. She has many children Coffeys and Collins. (That is why this cemetery is also known as the Collins Cemetery locally)."
