He married Margaret Jane Wolfe on Jan. 7, 1880, in Grainger County, Tennessee.
They were the parents of Martie B, William Franklin, Laura, Carter Jackson "Jack," Dulscena, Gold Ballard, Jefferson Dice, Lou, James Everett, Hattie Pearl, Horace Marcus, Myrtle Belle and Lona Reldy Coffey.
