Albert A. Bayer, 86, died Thursday, April 18, 2013, at his home in Garden City.
He was born Feb. 6, 1927, in Willowdale, to Nicholas and Catherine Elizabeth Becker Bayer.

Mr. Bayer worked in the flooring installation business, later starting his own carpet and tile business in 1971. He continued to own and operate his business until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City, Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Eagles Lodge. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War. He enjoyed gardening, gambling, playing cards and spending time with his family.

On Feb. 19, 1953, he married Rosemary Butler in Breenbush. She died in 1961. On July 25, 1964, he married Esther Jacobs in Garden City. She died Jan. 21, 2009. He also was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Banning and husband Justin of Dodge City, Joyce Briggs and husband Rick of Ulysses, and Melissa Klaus and husband Mike of Garden City; a son, Paul Bayer and wife Kim of Garden City; two sisters, Pauline Hahn of Garden City, and Helen Gahlen of Colwich; three brothers, Lawrence Bayer of Edmond, Okla., Henry Bayer of Holcomb, and Leo Bayer of Fort Collins, Colo.; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Vigil service and rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City.

Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Condolences may be emailed to [email protected]. Memorials are suggested to St. Dominic Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St., Garden City, KS 67846.
