Monday's unpredicted snow storm has been blamed for one death in Waterloo. Mr. Melvin W. Cain, 52, of 132 Summit Ave, died at about 6:30 p.m. Monday (Nov. 18, 1957) of a heart attack as a result of over-exertion from shoveling snow at his home. The fire department inhalator squad was summoned. Firemen administered oxygen for 30 minutes but could not revive him.
Mr. Cain was born Aug. 27, 1905, at Denver, Iowa, the son of Roy and Belle Cain. He married Mary Burman at Eldora, on Oct. 20, 1926. Mr. Cain had lived in Waterloo for 26 years after coming here from Waverly. He had been employed in the dry cure department of the Rath Packing Co. for 15 years. He was also an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Calvary Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Survivors include his wife; one brother, Earl Cain; one sister, Mrs. Jack Davis; and his mother. Mr. Cain was preceded in death by his father.
