Mr. Rudolph S. Brandenburg, 88 of Middletown, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 15, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 62 years, Evelyn E. Ropp Brandenburg (daughter of George Phillip Ropp and Fannie Rebecca Bussard).

He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, with a great sense of humor who will be deeply missed.

Born in Harmony, Maryland, on December 27, 1924, he was a son of the late Charles A. Brandenburg and Pearl E. Hooper Brandenburg.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Zion of Middletown. He loved to play the trumpet and was an active member of the Harmony Band for over 39 years. He loved to watch baseball, play cards, put together jigsaw puzzles and work crossword puzzles. In his younger years he loved to play baseball and work in his garden.

He is survived by on daughter Terri J. Talbott and husband Kirk of Frederick, a daughter-in-law Donna Jean Brandenburg of Middletown, one special granddaughter Kristi and husband Steven of Middletown, and a special great-granddaughter, Samantha of Middletown and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, G. Wayne Brandenburg, one sister Genevieve Elaine Brandenburg Talbert, and two brothers Jack Roland Brandenburg and Kenneth R. Brandenburg.

During WWII he served in the Army, with the A Battery 903rd Antiaircraft Automatic Weapons Battalion stationed in Panama.

He was a painting contractor in Frederick County for over 50 years, forming a business with his brothers called Brandenburg Brothers and later forming a business with his son, Rudolph S. Brandenburg and Son.

The family will receive friends on Thursday April 18 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown.

Funeral services will be held 11 am on Friday, April 19 Evangelical Lutheran Church Zion in Middletown.

Interment will be made in Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Middletown.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Ave., P. O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
