Son of Joseph S. Brewer and Mary Francis Summers Brewer.

Note: The middle name can be found as either "Hanford" or "Hamford". The "Hanford" spelling was used in a set of Brewer family group sheets prepared in Nov. 1980 by Melva Jane Workman). Not sure which one is more correct - will just use the middle initial "H" on this memorial pending any clarification. It is possible that the middle name was used on his Henry County death record - this contributor does not have easy access to that document at this time, however.

A edit request was made on August 2, 2016 to use "Hamford" for the middle name, but that edit is awaiting sourcing before acceptance. It may well be that Melva's family group sheets were in error, but since William was born in 1858 there is no Iowa death record to use for clarification, so reconciling the two versions depends on alternate, but credible, sourcing.

Married Lizzie Gray Howell Brewer on November 4, 1880 in Jefferson county, Iowa.

LIFE OF W. H. BREWER

W. H. Brewer, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Brewer, was born near Glasgow, Iowa, September 6, 1858, and departed this life at Mt. Pleasant, Ia., where he had been taken for treatment, December 27, 1920, being 62 years, 3 months and 24 days old. In 1880 he was married to Miss Lissie Howell. To this union were born five children, two daughters dying, one in infancy and the other, Nora Ethel, at the age of two years and 8 months. Those living are: Mrs. Emma Workman of Stockport, and Mrs. Gladys Hodson of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Edgar of Portland, Ore. Besides his wife and children he is survived by three brothers, Frank of Blackfoot, Ida., Hayes of Washington state, Jim and one sister, Lizzie Wagner, of Mt. Park, Okla.

Mr. Brewer was well known in Jefferson and Van Buren counties. For several years he had charge of a totel in Stockport. From there he removed to Fairfield about seven years ago. He was employed at the Louden factory. About a year ago he began to fail in health, and although all was done for him that loving care and medical skill could do, he continued to fail until his death, the immediate cause of which was double pneumonia.

By his upright life, Mr. Brewer made many friends. He came into the Christian church in 1914, and by his faithful attendance and active service was made a member of the board of deacons. As long as health permitted he was always found in his place in Bible school and church.

Funeral services were conducted from the church by his pastor, R. H. Polly, Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 10:30 o'clock. The body was then taken to Glasgow and laid to rest in the family burial ground.
