Donald "Doc" Carl Whisler, age 79 of Porter, Ind., passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013.

He was born May 3, 1933, in Unionville, Iowa, to Carl and Mable (Hunt) Whisler, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was married on November 23, 1973, in Chesterton, Ind., to Nancy J. (Bernard) Whisler, who survives in Porter, Ind.

Donald is also survived by his children, Donald E. (Julie) Whisler, Victoria Pursley, Pamela A. Gomez, Laura L. Tasky and Danny A. (Crystal) Hoyo; grandchildren, Erin Whisler, Andy (Sandra) Whisler, Kelsey Whisler, Ian Kinel, Vanessa Pursley, Richard D. (Christy) Amburgey, Justin (Lisa) Amburgey, Chris J. Gorski, Parker Hoyo, Ashley Hoyo, Jeffrey Tasky and Austin Simpson; nine great-grandchildren; brothers Bob, Larry and Jerry Whisler; and sister, Carol Morris.

He was also preceded in death by his son Dennis Alan Whisler; daughter Deborah Whisler; brothers, Dillon and Billy; sisters, Darlene, Hattie, Jo, Carletta and Barbara.

Donald was a resident of Porter for 40 years and of Chesterton for 20 years. He graduated from high school in Udell, Iowa. He also graduated from Emerson Vocational School and worked at Doler Plumbing and Heating.

He worked at Bethlehem Steel and Pipe and was a member of Chicago Local Union #433.

He then owned Duneland Heating and later United Heating and Cooling. He was a Cub Scout Weblo leader.

Donald served on several Chesterton town boards and also several Porter town boards. He was the Porter Building Commissioner for eight years. He was a Democrat his entire life and served as a Precinct Committeeman. Donald loved gardening, Christmas and having people stop by to visit.

Friends and family are invited to join Donald's family in celebrating his life.

There will be a memorial visitation held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind., with a memorial service at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for medical expenses in care of Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN, 46304.
