Amber Kay Bendorf, 52, of Lenexa, KS, formerly of High Amana, died of cancer Saturday, July 1, 1995 in Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam, KS. Services: 1 pm Wednesday at Overland Park Lutheran Church, Lenexa. Additional services: 1 pm Thursday at Middle Amana Church. Burial: High Amana Cemetery. Local arrangements are with Hoover-Valentine Funeral home in Marengo. Survivors include her husband Henry; a daughter Angela of Lees Summit, MO; a son Brian of Mission, KS; her mother Dorothy Clark Slezak of Cedar Rapids; a sister Dorrie Jo Horak of Waterloo; and 2 brothers Paul Slezak, Jr of Ely and Wayne Slezak of Swisher. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Paul B Slezak in 1988. Born Oct 19, 1942 in Cedar Rapids, she married Henry "Hank" Bendorf 34 years ago. She lived in the Amana area for 14 years and in 1982 moved from Ames to Lenexa, KS, where she was part-time store activities representative for McDonald's. At the time of her death, she was president of the Lenexa Historical society. An 11 year member of Lenexa Arts Council. Amber was responsible for bringing the Missoula Children's Theatre to the city in 1993. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi-Pi Omicron Chapter, Nature Conservancy, Burroughs Audubon Society and Friends of Powell Gardens. The family suggest contributions be made to the Kansas City Ronald McDonald House.
