Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune - Thu, Sep 16, 1948 - Services for Jack Shannon, well known World War I veteran of Storm Lake, were held Sunday afternoon. Interment was made at the Lakeview cemetery where the veterans ceremonial team conducted military rites. Here is the obituary read at the services:
John LeRoy Shannon, son of D.F. and Elizabeth Shannon, was born at Sterling, IL July 26, 1882. He passed away at his home 322 Geneseo street Storm Lake Thursday Sept 9, attaining the age of 88 years, one month, and 9 days.
He came to Iowa about 49 years ago and resided in this community the remainder of his life.
On Sept 21, 1910 he was married to Mabel Hasbrook. They became the parents of one son Robert, and one daughter, Josephine, who passed away at the age of 26.
Mr Shannon was a skilled carpenter and cabinet maker and worked at his trade until his health began to fail about 7 years ago. He spent one year in the Veterans hospital and has remained bedridden for the past year.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father and daughter, Josephine.
He is survived by his wife and son, Robert; two brothers, Guy Shannon of Storm Lake and Edgar Shannon of Leader, MN; one sister, Lillian B (Mrs Leo Full) of Alta; three grandchildren: Jania Joy, Karen Gail, and Jackie Loy McKell of Erie, PA.
